Golfing in Portugal:

Golf currently contributes 1,8 Billion Euros to the Portuguese economy and Portugal is considered to be the most successful golfing destination in Europe. Following on from the success of the golf in the Algarve the government has focused its attention on the Silver Coast as a premier golfing destination.

There are five existing international standard 18-hole golf courses within a 15-20 minute drive including Praia d'El Rey voted Europe's best golf course for 2006. Three new golf courses are currently in design and approval stage.

There are also plans to build six more over the next few years. These golf courses will attract a slice of the country's sports-tourism to the region, generating more revenue and fuelling the need for quality tourist accommodation.
