Following on from the success of the golf in the Algarve the government has focused its attention on the Silver Coast as a premier golfing destination.

There are five existing international standard 18-hole golf courses within a 15-20 minute drive including Praia d'El Rey voted Europe's best golf course for 2006. Another three new golf courses are currently in design and approval stage, one of them being in So Martinho do Porto and another at Foz do Arelho which is just five minutes drive away.
